West Virginia’s athletic director isn’t shy about his passion for football helmets.
Baker posted his personal collection of West Virginia football helmets on social media tonight, as he uses it to decorate his home.
The left column features a white helmet with the state logo on it, a blue helmet with a Flying WV on it, and a yellow helmet with the state logo on it. Notably, the yellow helmet has yet to be worn by the team with that logo, but should appear this season. The helmet has also appeared in EA College Football 25.
The right column features one throwback helmet and two alternates. The gold helmet on the top was worn from 1973 to 1978, and is a style that Baker has shown he is a fan of before.
While Baker has expressed interest in the design, there is no news currently on if the helmet will return in any capacity.
The remaining two helmets are easily identifiable. The middle helmet is from last season’s “Country Roads” uniform set, worn in the 2023 edition of the Backyard Brawl and at the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
The bottom helmet in the right column is from the upcoming Coal Rush uniform set, which will debut in the 2024 football season.
