Derek Clark Selected by Los Angeles Angels

West Virginia left-handed pitcher Derek Clark has been drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the ninth round of the 2024 MLB draft.

Clark transferred to WVU before last season after beginning his collegiate career at Northwood University (DII). He got a late start to his 2024 campaign due to injury but finished the season with an 8-3 record, 91 strikeouts, four complete games, one complete game shutout across 97.2 innings pitched with a 3.23 ERA.

Clark was named an NCBWA Third-Team All-American, ABCA First-Team All-East Region, All-Big 12 First-Team, Tucson Regional Most Outstanding Player and won a gold glove on the mound. He becomes the fourth Mountaineer selected in the MLB draft and third pitcher, joining JJ Wetherholt, David Hagaman and Aidan Major.
