West Virginia was featured in college football analyst/commentator Greg McElroy’s Preseason Top 25.

Coming off an 8-4 season and bowl win over UNC, the Mountaineers were ranked No. 23 and were one of six Big 12 teams in McElroy’s rankings. WVU was picked to finish seventh in the Big 12 Football Media Preseason Poll.

West Virginia brought in a slew of transfers and retained many starters from last season, but did lose some players due to eligibility and the NFL Draft. While there is no exact date for the official AP preseason poll, it is expected to come out in early to mid-August.

The Mountaineers have yet to be ranked in the AP Top 25 under head coach Neal Brown. They were last ranked in week nine of the 2018 season under Dana Holgorsen. With expectations high from those within the program and others outside of it, WVU could very well return to the poll in 2024.
