Ceili McCabe looks to bring home a medal in upcoming 2024 Summer Olympic Games

From the moment Ceili McCabe stepped foot in Morgantown, it was obvious of the special things she was going to accomplish as a Mountaineer. In her first track and field season in 2021, McCabe broke the program record for the fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time.

Since that year, McCabe has taken her time lower and lower year after year and the time had come to take her talent and training to the Canadian Olympic Trials. In the event, McCabe finished the race with a time of 9:32.97 to advance to the Paris Olympic games.

The win in the event also won McCabe the Canadian National Title in 3,000-meter steeplechase.

The Vancouver, British Columbian native will represent both West Virginia and Canada in the upcoming 2024 Olympic games that will be held in Paris from July 26-August 11. McCabe will run in round one of the steeplechase on August 4 at 4:05 a.m. ET.

During her time at WVU, McCabe has also brought in plenty of hardware including All-American first team in every outdoor track and field season she has completed. This past season in indoor track, McCabe was a part of the Big 12 Indoor Championship Distance Medley Relay team.

In both indoor and outdoor track, McCabe has won an individual Big 12 Championship in her career as well. In the 2022-23 season, she won the indoor 3,000-meter race and outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase in the Big 12.

In the 2021 Summer Olympics, McCabe’s time she ran during this year’s Canadian Trails would have been good enough for seventh place in the world.

This August, Ceili McCabe will shoot for the stars and look to bring her come country and WVU back a medal from Paris.
