Tyler Cheng, WVU men’s basketball athletic data statistician has been named an assistant coach on the West Virginia Alumni’s TBT team, Best Virginia’s staff.
Cheng has been serving the role of athletic data statistics for the Mountaineers since 2019. Before that he spent four years as a graduate assistant, head manager and student manager for WVU.
“West Virginia fans may recognize a familiar face from the WVU bench,” Best Virginia’s general manager Chase Harler said. “We’re excited to bring Tyler’s analytical and basketball knowledge to the family as an assistant coach. Welcome, Tyler!”
Best Virginia takes on Pittsburgh in their first game of the tournament on July 20. The TBT is a 64-team tournament, beginning with eight regionals. The winning team of the tournament will be awarded with a $1 million, winner-take-all prize.
