The Mountaineers are stacked with talent entering the Big 12 football season, according to Athlon Sports.
Athlon released its 2024 preseason All-Conference teams, and in the Big 12, West Virginia tallied 11 selections. Headlining those selections were First-Team selections Wyatt Milum and Aubrey Burks.
Also earning team selections were tight end Kole Taylor, offensive lineman Tomas Rimac, and defensive lineman Sean Martin on the second team, running back Jahiem White on the third team, and running back CJ Donaldson, defensive lineman Edward Vesterinen, linebacker Trey Lathan, cornerback Garnett Hollis Jr., and kicker Michael Hayes on the fourth team.
West Virginia’s selections tie the Mountaineers for third most in the conference with Oklahoma State and Kansas. Milum was also one of seven Big 12 players selected to the first or second team All-American.
Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II, wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter from Colorado, and Oklahoma linebacker Danny Stutsman were named to the All-American first team. Joining Milum on the second team were Utah tight end Brant Kuithe, Cincinnati offensive lineman Luke Kandra, and Oklahoma State linebacker Nickolas Martin.
In addition to West Virginia’s selections, Athlon named Neal Brown the ninth best coach in the Big 12 entering the 2024 season. He will look to utilize his high-level talent to outdo the Mountaineers’ 9-4 2023 campaign starting August 31 against Penn State.
