WVU’s outfield depth just got even better as the recruiting efforts of Steve Sabins and Jacob Garcia continue.
The Mountaineers gained the commitment of Jace Rinehart from the transfer portal on Friday night, bringing the Mannington, W.Va. native back to Almost Heaven.
A rising senior, Rinehart spent his past three seasons at the University of South Carolina Upstate before the transfer. As a junior, Rinehart recorded 94 hits with a .366 batting average to lead the Spartans to a 36-24 record and second place in the Big South Championship.
Rinehart brings versatility to the WVU lineup, as he has a reputation as a big hitter that can play several places in the field, including catcher, where he spent his sophomore year. Rinehart earned Second Team All-Big South honors in his sophomore season as a catcher.
West Virginia’s newest addition enters the first season of WVU’s Steve Sabins era. Sabins, a former WVU recruiter, is taking a direct role in recruiting from the transfer portal this season.
