Left-handed pitcher Griffin Kirn announced his commitment to West Virginia earlier today on social media.
The 6-foot-3 pitcher spent four years pitching for Quincy University, in his hometown of Quincy, Illinois. He holds a collegiate earned run average of 4.91 through 211 innings pitched. His best season came in 2024, pitching in 15 games, resulting in a 2.96 earned run average, an 8-1 win-loss record, and 100 batters striking out to his arsenal. The most strikeouts Kirn threw in a game was 15 in a win against Rockhurst.
Kirn spent the past three seasons as a starter with the Quincy Hawks and has limited experience as a reliever. His collegiate earned run average was just below 6.00 before his 2024 campaign. During the 2023 season, batters facing Kirn had a batting average of .268. In 2024, Kirn faced the most batters he’d ever faced in a season of his collegiate career and limited them to a .234 batting average.
The Mountaineers have a history of recruiting starting pitchers from Division II programs. Derek Clark pitched three seasons with Northwood University before transferring to West Virginia.
