Former interim head coach Josh Eilert added to Utah’s staff

Utah’s men’s basketball coach Craig Smith announced the addition of Josh Eilert to his staff as an assistant coach on Thursday.

Eilert took on various roles during the 17 years he spent in West Virginia, serving as an assistant coach and interim head coach during his final two years. He holds a record of 9-23 during his head coaching tenure, going 4-12 in conference play.

Smith commented on the hire, as the Utah Utes look to his experience to prepare for their first season in Big 12 play. “Josh is an excellent coach in all facets. He is well rounded in all phases of the game and articulates the game in a clear and concise manner. Josh has an excellent background in player development and will specifically work with the ‘bigs’ in our program. He also has a vast knowledge of the Big 12, having played and coached in it for nearly two decades; which will be very impactful as we head into that conference this season.”

Before his time with the Mountaineers, Eilert began as a graduate assistant with Kansas State, working with them from 2005-07. He came to West Virginia alongside Bob Huggins. He had worked under Huggins during the 2006-07 season, the only year Huggins coached the Wildcats.
