MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 4, 2024) – Redshirt senior Mikenna Vanderheyden of the West Virginia University track and field team is slated to compete in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on June 5-8.
The semifinal round of the women’s steeplechase will be held on June 6 at 9:02 p.m. ET/6:02 p.m. PT, followed by the final round on June 8 at 5:54 p.m. ET/2:54 p.m. PT.
The top five fastest times from the two heats plus the next two fastest times will advance to Saturday’s finals.
Live results will be available at WVUsports.com, while all four days of competition will be broadcast live on ESPN+, ESPN2 and ESPN.
Vanderheyden secured her ticket to Eugene after finishing second in the second heat of the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on May 25.
This marks the first trip to a track and field championship for Vanderheyden, as she is seeded No. 21 nationally after posting a career-best time of 10:00.84 during the preliminary round.
Earlier this season, Vanderheyden placed fourth in the steeplechase at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship on May 11 with a time of 10:13.39, earning conference honors.
The Mount Brydges, Ontario, Canada, native secured her trip to the postseason on May 4 when she finished first in the steeplechase at the WVU Last Chance Meet with a time of 10:02.80. Since then, Vanderheyden has held the record as the third-fastest Mountaineer to run the steeplechase in program history.
