Fresno State center transfer Eduardo Andre was the fifth player to sign with West Virginia officially after the hire of head coach Darian DeVries.
He was born in Luanda, Angola, before moving to London when he was four years old, is currently the Mountaineers’ only true center on the roster. Andre reportedly didn’t start playing competitive basketball until he was 14 years old and played at AZ Compass Prep (Arizona) in high school, where he was a three-star recruit by 247Sports, receiving a few DI offers, ultimately signing to play at Nebraska where he spent his first two years collegiately.
The 6-foot-11 250-pound big man played in 20 games this past season, starting 18 with the Bulldogs before suffering a leg injury, that ended his season. He averaged 7.3 points, five rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game in 2023-2024, where he shot just over 60% from the field.
“Eduardo is a big addition to our program,” DeVries said. “He will give us terrific rim protection on the defensive end. Offensively, he will bolster our frontcourt. He really runs well and fits in great with our transition game.”
The rising fifth-year senior scored a career-high in points against Air Force on Feb. 21, 2023 with 26, where he shot 10-of-14 from the field. The most rebounds Andre recorded in a game was 15 on Jan. 14, 2023 also against Air Force, he’s had multiple games in his collegiate career with three or more blocks and picked up at least one steal in half the games he played in last season.
