McCabe Sets Canadian National Record

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 20, 2024) – Senior Ceili McCabe of the West Virginia University track and field team set the Canadian national record in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase on May 17 at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix in Los Angeles, California.

McCabe surpassed the national record by 1.80 seconds, with a time of 9:20.58 earning a first-place finish.

This is the second time this year that McCabe has set a record. The senior previously became the fastest Mountaineer to run the women’s mile in program history at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship in March with a time of 4:29.26.

The Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, native, eclipsed the Olympic standard time by two and half seconds. McCabe will await selection to the 2024 Paris games, as she has previously competed for team Canada twice at the World Athletic Championships.
