Former WVU Player and Staff Member named head coach at Division II School

James Long, a former West Virginia guard and video coordinator has been named the next head coach at the University of Charleston (West Virginia, DII).

Long is a native of Charleston, but played his high school ball at Woodberry Forest in Virginia. He played at WVU from 2014-2017 making one start against Iowa State on senior night.

Long was a member of the Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball First Team and graduated from West Virginia with from WVU with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He then served three seasons as the Mountaineers’ video coordinator.

The University of Charleston Golden Eagles went 29-5 this past season and won the Mountain East Conference tournament. Dwaine Osborne, the school’s former men’s basketball coach accepted a job at Youngstown State, allowing for Long to be hired as the next coach.
