West Virginia Football Unveils New Uniforms

West Virginia football unveiled their new set of uniforms during their Gold-Blue Spring Game on Saturday.

The new uniforms include three new uniforms, combining past uniforms with present looks. The new uniforms include a pants strips as well as the return of the flying WV on the outside shoulder of the uniforms.

“In developing our new uniforms, it was important for us to incorporate our rich history and tradition with modern technology. We also wanted people instantly to recognize that the West Virginia Mountaineers were playing,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. “I believe our design team and equipment staff along with our partners at Nike did a great job with these uniforms.”

They include a white set, a gold set, and a blue set.

The uniforms are also Nike’s Vapor F.U.S.E. uniforms, focusing on zoned breathability, lightweight stretch fabric, shaped collars and mobility sleeves for comfort and range of motion along with thermal regulation for moisture wicking.

These are similar to the Country Roads Uniforms that were released when WVU played in the Backyard Brawl the last two seasons.

Two of the uniforms read Mountaineers across the chest, while the white ones read, West Virginia. The white uniforms also feature the white helmet with the state outline and flying WV in the middle, similar to what they wore at points of last season. The other two helmets feature just the flying WV look.

“We went into the past and brought back some of the best parts of our uniform history that have made this football program so special,” head coach Neal Brown said. “We have truly mixed tradition and modern technology in the new uniforms. We have plenty of combinations to choose from each week and our players are excited for the new look. The key though is no matter the pant or the jersey, fans will know it’s the West Virginia Mountaineers on the football field.”
