Zach Frazier Drafted by Pittsburgh Steelers in Second Round of NFL Draft

West Virginia center Zach Frazier is headed to the NFL.

Frazier was selected by the in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night, as the Pittsburgh Steelers took him with the 51st overall selection.

Frazier grew up just south of Morgantown in Fairmont, West Virginia where he was a four-time state champion wrestler at Fairmont Senior High School and a three-star football recruit.

Frazier began his career at WVU during the ‘Covid’ season in 2020, playing in 10 games at guard, starting nine. He was the first true freshman to start on West Virginia’s offensive line since 1980.

In 2021, when he was first named a team captain and achieved All-American status, Frazier moved to center, the position he stayed at for the rest of his career, making 37 straight starts. Frazier would once again be named an All-American 2023 in a season where he did not allow a sack and was at the core of an offensive line that helped WVU finish with the most rushing yards in Power Five and the second.

Frazier’s career as a Mountaineer was cut short on Nov. 25, 2023, in a win over Baylor during a play that may be remembered by West Virginia fans for some time.

On the eventual game-winning drive, Frazier broke his leg, but before hopping off the field, carried redshirt freshman wide receiver Hudson Clement to a first down, while also saving WVU a 10-second runoff. Frazier would miss the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and was only able to participate in non-contact drills during the Senior Bowl and NFL combine.
