WVU has officially secured its pair of Sunday commitments, as Amani Hansberry joins Sencire Harris on the new-look Mountaineers.
Harris and Hansberry are WVU’s second and third men’s basketball recruits since the signing of new head coach Darian DeVries from Drake. The former Fighting Illini join DeVries’ son, 6-foot-7 rising senior guard Tucker, in the transfer class.
Hansberry, a 6-foot-8 forward, played 19 games in his freshman season with Illinois. In 7.5 minutes per game, Hansberry shot 19-for-42 from the field and four-for-13 from three, and averaged 2.4 points and 2.1 rebounds for the season.
Coach DeVries is enthusiastic about Hansberry’s potential growth in the upcoming season as he looks to re-tool a squad losing six players to the portal.
“Amani has a great motor and a nose for the ball,” DeVries said. “He has a very unique skill set and will give us great versatility at both ends of the floor. I love the way he competes, and he will bring a winning mindset.”
