Neal Brown gives injury updates as some guys are cleared, while others go down

Spring practice No. 11 was held on Wednesday and with four practices to go, it means there is a better picture on the injury front.

Head coach Neal Brown gave updates about multiple guys who started the spring sidelined but have worked their way back. He also talked about a couple names who went down with an injury during spring practice.

At the beginning of spring practice, Brown gave a list of guys who would be limited or not cleared to participate in spring drills. Among them were running back CJ Donaldson, tight end Kole Taylor, offensive lineman Tomas Rimac, defensive lineman Asani Redwood.

On Wednesday, Brown had positive updates about the group.

“Asani I think he’s on track. He won’t be back in the spring,” Brown said.

For the other three listed, it was more positive news, as all three are practicing, just at different levels of what is allowed.

“CJ has done everything except take contact. He can play in a game if we had a game. he’s going to be fine. Kole had an operation upper body, nothing serious. He’ll be fully released in the summer. They’re doing individual drills, they’re just no contact at this point,” Brown said. “Tomas is the other one. He got released for individual at the beginning of last week, so he’s out there doing individual, but won’t do any 11-on-11 work.”

Brown also added a couple other names to the injury list, as Graeson Malashevich has had what Brown calls a nagging lower body issue that he thought he got fixed, but had another procedure recently to try and fully eliminate from coming back. Brown said in about a month he will be good to start running.

Another name is TJ Crandall, a cornerback transfer from Colorado State, who is dealing with a small hamstring issue.

“TJ Crandall has been down with a hamstring, it’s not serious but it’s nagging. He’d like to be out there, we like him out there,” Brown said.

Jacolby Spells is another name who Brown previously announced and his injury will take a decision on his return up until the fall. In addition, Corey McIntyre Jr. is out with a lower body injury, as Brown said they will have more information later this week.

“McIntyre, he had a lower body injury on Monday. We’ll know more about that probably later in the week. Didn’t look good though,” Brown said.
