West Virginia women’s basketball adds Auburn guard transfer

West Virginia women’s basketball dipped into the transfer portal for the first time this offseason, adding Sydney Shaw from Auburn, she announced on Tuesday.

Shaw, a 5-foot-9 guard just finished her sophomore season at Auburn. She is originally from Miami, and averaged 6.6 points per game, shooting 34 percent from the field, and averaging just under 22 minutes per game.

Shaw spent two seasons at Auburn, starting 25 games her freshman season and 18 games her sophomore season. She scored a career-high 17 points this past season against Big 12 foe UCF, and has scored 10 points or more 16 times in her career.

Shaw is the first pickup for WVU head coach Mark Kellogg in the transfer portal this offseason, as the Mountaineers lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to eventual national runner-up Iowa this season.
