West Virginia men’s basketball has hired Nelson Hernandez as their new General Manager.
Jon Rothstein first reported the news of Hernandez joining Darian DeVries’ coaching staff.
Hernandez was at Oklahoma State this past season under Mike Boynton, serving as their Director of Player Development. Prior to that he was the Director of Basketball Operations at LSU from 2017-2022, as well as VCU from 2016-2017.
He was an assistant coach at Fresno State for the 2022-2023 season following those two stints.
Hernandez’s coaching career began at Utah State where he was a video coordinator from 2010-2014 and then at Clemson in the same role in 2014-2015. He was then the director of player development at Wright State the following season.
He is a native of Brooklyn, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Utah State in 2013.
