EJ Horton finished up his first season at West Virginia this past season after spending his first three collegiate seasons at Marshall.
Throughout his college career, Horton has mostly been a rotational piece in the wide receiver room.
This past season, Horton played 165 offensive snaps and had 10 catches for a career-high 201 yards plus a touchdown against Oklahoma State.
Wide receivers coach Bilal Marshall spoke about how EJ Horton is working to become more consistent as a receiver.
“I think he’s had about really five strong days where he was consistent and that’s his word for this whole year,” Marshall said. “I say, ‘Hey, do you just want to be a one-trick pony? Do you want to just run down the field?’ The answer is no. You want to be a complete receiver and it’s a consistent approach.”
Marshall talked about the speed that Horton possesses and how he is capable of playing of playing on Sundays since he has speed that no one else on the team possesses.
EJ Horton is part of a wide receiver room that returns most of its production. The only major piece that the Mountaineers have lost from last season is Devin Carter.
Hudson Clement returns after tying the team lead in touchdown catches and was West Virginia’s highest graded player in the receiving game by Pro Football Focus. The room also includes guys like Preston Fox, Rodney Gallagher, and Traylon Ray amongst others.
EJ Horton will compete with these guys for playing time on the West Virginia offense this fall. The spring game is set for April 27, with the season opener against Penn State set for August 31.
