After being out for over a month, West Virginia star shortstop JJ Wetherholt is officially back in the starting lineup in the series opener against Kansas.
Wetherholt suffered a hamstring strain in the final game of WVU’s opening series against Stetson after scoring a run in the first inning, he’s been out since as the Mountaineers wanted him to make a full recovery. Wetherholt will be the designated hitter and lead off as West Virginia looks to ease him back and keep him limited.
Logan Sauve is also making his first start since getting injured against Western Kentucky, he’ll be behind the plate. Sauve entered as a pinch hitter in WVU’s game Saturday against Oklahoma State.
The starting lineup for Friday night’s game is as follows with Aidan Major on the bump:
- JJ Wetherholt DH
- Logan Sauve C
- Sam White RF
- Reed Chumley 3B
- Grant Hussey 1B
- Kyle West LF
- Brodie Kresser SS
- Aaron Jamison CF
- Spencer Barnett 2B
First pitch is set for 7 p.m. EST with the game being streamed to ESPN+.
