Former Mountaineer and current Cleveland Charge forward Gabe Osabuohien was honored with the 2023-24 Kia NBA G League Sportsmanship Award on Thursday.
His peers say he is the most deserving of this award thanks to his demeanor on the court and the lives he has impacted off of it. Charge GM Liron Fanan says Osabuohien is an amazing person and is proud of him for getting the award.
“Gabe is the ideal type of player and person we look for in a teammate: hard-working, positive, enthusiastic and selfless,” Liron Fanan said. “He is an amazing person with how he treats people and who he represents. We are very proud of him for earning this award.”
Charge head coach Mike Gerrity also spoke about Osabuohien.
“Gabe was no doubt the heart and soul of our team this season who always pushed the guys to be at their best,” Gerrity said. “He has such an infectious, positive personality and connects with everyone he meets. He makes everything and everyone better and there’s nobody more deserving of this award.”
Osabuohien played college basketball at both Arkansas and West Virginia, playing at West Virginia from 2019-2022. He appeared in 88 games over three seasons in Morgantown and averaged 3.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
His generosity extends to Morgantown where he has sponsored a back-to-school giveaway to help hundreds of children in Morgantown and the surrounding area.
