2024 WVU Signee Carmelo Adkins Decommits Following Coaching Change

West Virginia 2024 signee Carmelo Adkins announced he is decommitting from West Virginia following the coaching change under Darian DeVries.

Adkins had officially been signed since November, but released a statement on Thursday saying he would be re-opening his recruitment.

“Very grateful for Coach McCabe, Coach Eilert, Jay Kuntz and the entire staff for giving me an opportunity to play at WVU,” Adkins said in a statement.

He later added,” at this time I will be re-opening my recruitment for the betterment of my academic and athletic career,” while also saying he’s requested a release from his national letter of intent.

Last season at Phoenix Prep (PHH Prep), he averaged 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and 1.3 steals per game. In 2021-22, Adkins averaged 12.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game.
