WVU baseball signs JUCO infielder

The West Virginia baseball team signed middle infielder Robert Phelps from Harford College in Maryland on Monday.

Phelps, originally from Pittsburgh, will join the team next season, the first under future head coach Steve Sabins. This season he is hitting .379 with four home runs and 14 RBIS in 28 games thus far.

Phelps is also effective on the basepaths, stealing 20 bases on 22 attempts and scoring a total of 35 runs this season.

Coming out of Taylor Allderdice High School, Phelps was ranked the 500th-best prospect in the 2022 class and 172nd-best shortstop nationally by Perfect Game. In Pennsylvania, he was ranked as the 24th-best prospect overall and 5th-best shortstop overall. He originally committed to Ole Miss, before going the JUCO route, starting at Riverside City College now at Harford.
