The West Virginia baseball team (12-9) is on the road this weekend as they are set to face the Oklahoma Sooners who are ranked as the No. 17 team in the nation according to d1baseball.com.
The Mountaineers are coming off a tremendous offensive showing against Marshall on Wednesday, where they hit five home runs en route to a 15-0 victory, claiming their eighth straight victory over the Thundering Herd.
Reed Chumley was key in the win for WVU as he continued his success against Marshall. He went 3-4, with two home runs, a double and a walk, in two games this season Chumley is 7-8 against the Thundering Herd with seven RBIs.
The Sooners are coming off a 6-0 loss to No. 15 Dallas Baptist, after having swept TCU this past weekend. Oklahoma sits at the top of the Big 12 conference, with a 6-0 record in conference play and a 13-7 record overall. West Virginia is tied for third in the conference with Kansas State (14-6 overall) and Texas (13-8) with a 2-1 record in Big 12 play.
Junior outfielder John Spikerman leads the way for OU in terms of batting with a .394 average. He’s got 28 hits this season, including five doubles, a triple and a home run, while stealing nine bases on 11 attempts. Not far behind Spikerman in the average department is sophomore catcher Easton Carmichael, who’s hitting .380, with 30 hits in more at-bats, seven doubles, two home runs and a triple. Infielder Michael Snyder, a redshirt senior, leads the Sooners with five home runs and has a .348 average.
