The WVU baseball team will play Marshall at Kendrick Family Ballpark with the first pitch at 3:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday.
The Mountaineers came out victorious 11-2 when the two teams faced on March 12 in Charleston. West Virginia would jump on Marshall’s starter Chad Heiner in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs to take a 6-2 lead.
WVU’s offense would stay consistent scoring runs in every inning after that except the 7th. Tyler Switalski got the start for the Mountaineers in that game, letting up the two runs in the first inning and only pitched two innings, with the bullpen doing its job in shutting down the Thundering Herd. In the end, Robby Porco would earn the win and West Virginia pitchers would combine for 16 strikeouts.
WVU is 14-1 against Marshall since 2016 and currently rides a seven-game winning streak against the Thundering Herd that dates back to 2021.
On the season, the Mountaineers are 11-9, whereas Marshall is 6-13 coming off getting swept by Southern Mississippi in a three-game series. Calin Smith is Marshall’s top batter in terms of average coming in hitting .288, with 10 RBIs and two homers. Owen Ayers leads the Thundering Herd in home runs with five.
Wednesday’s game can be streamed on ESPN+.
