No. 68 West Virginia Faces Cincinnati for First Time Since 2012 in Big 12 Battle

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 14, 2024) – The No. 68 West Virginia University tennis team will face Cincinnati at 1 p.m. ET on Friday, March 15, at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.

West Virginia (11-5, 0-4 Big 12) has faced three straight ranked teams after losing on the road to then-No. 7 Texas on March 8, and then-No. 20 Oklahoma on March 10, the last time out.

The Mountaineers are 10-7 all-time against Cincinnati. This is the first meeting between the two programs since 2012 when both were in the Big East. The Bearcats won the match, 5-2.

West Virginia is back in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Top 75 poll at No. 68 this week. This is West Virginia’s first ranking since it sat at No. 61 on Feb. 27.

Two players have eclipsed double-digit wins in singles play as senior Momoko Nagato and redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik sit at 10-4 this season. In limited action, junior Tatiana Lipatova has played well for the Mountaineers as she is 5-1 overall in singles play.

As a team, WVU is 50-36 in singles play.

The pairing of freshman Maya Bordereau and Dodik continues to lead the way in doubles play for WVU as the duo is 9-2 this year. The doubles team comprised of junior Michaela Kucharova and senior Momoko Nagato is 8-3 this year.

The Mountaineers are 22-18 overall in doubles play.
