ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla commends Eilert for season

Interim head coach Josh Eilert was formally informed that he would not be retained in his role following the end of the 2023-24 basketball season on Wednesday.

Following the announcement, there was an outpour of comments giving gratitude to Eilert for the challenges he faced throughout the season and how he kept it all together.

One of those giving praise to Eilert was ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla.

Fraschilla has long been a Big 12 Conference fan and was on the television broadcast for WVU’s final game of the season in the Big 12 Tournament against Cincinnati on Tuesday. He has called too many games to count, and has developed a close relationship with the vast majority of the staffs within the conference.

“Kudos to Josh Eilert and his West Virginia hoops staff. They were thrust into an impossible situation,” Fraschilla said.

Fraschilla also commented on the type of job the WVU basketball head coaching job is and said it’s a great job.

“Statewide fan support, great facilities, best hoops league in country in Big 12 Conference, lot of recruiting possibilities.”

Athletic Director Wren Baker has formally started his national search for the next head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers, with a goal of having the next head coach announced by Final Four weekend.
