West Virginia’s Peyton Hall, Jordan Titus and Ty Watters are all advanced to the Big 12 semifinals in Tulsa in their respective weight classes.
Titus, the No. 4 seeded 141-pounder kicked off the tournament by scoring a 16-4 major decision over his opponent from California Baptist. The redshirt sophomore would win his next match after getting a last-minute takedown over the No. 5-seeded Clay Carlson from South Dakota State, winning 6-5. He will face the No. 1 seed Anthony Echemendia of Iowa State in the semifinals.
At 149, Watters the No. 3 seed earned an 18-3 technical fall in the opening round. The true freshman then notched a 12-2 MD over his opponent from North Dakota State in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals where he’ll take on No. 7 Gabe Willochell of Wyoming, who upset the No. 2 Willie McDougald by pinning him in the quarters.
No. 3-seeded at 165 Peyton Hall, who was an All-American last year earned a 16-1 TF over his opponent from North Dakota State. Hall would go on to pin No. 6 seed Cael Carlson, who he pinned in the regular season as well. He’ll face the No. 2 seed David Carr of Iowa State in a highly anticipated rematch of last years semifinals.
WVU 125-pounder Jett Strickenberger, 157-pounder Caleb Dowling, 174-pounder Brody Conley, 184-pounder Dennis Robin and Heavyweight Michael Wolfgram all have a chance to earn an automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Championships in Kansas City.
As a team, the Mountaineers currently sit in sixth place in the Big 12 tournament with 38 points.
