Zach Frazier may be coming off of a season-ending leg injury suffered in late November, but that didn’t stop him from participating at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.
Frazier didn’t run the 40-yard dash, but he participated in some of the position drills.
Prior to his workout on Sunday, he met with the media on Saturday. He was two hours late due to an X-ray and an MRI, but he talked about things such as his injury and how he hopes to participate more in his Pro Day later this month.
“It’s going good so far. I feel like I’ve been able to recover pretty fast,” Frazier said. “As far as where I’m at, I’m able to run a 40. I can, you know, do a shuttle. I’m training for that now. But I’m gonna end up waiting to run those at Pro Day. But I wanted to.”
Frazier describes his style as physical and how he likes to run block.
“Physical, my goal is to put people on the ground,” Frazier said. “Pretty levelheaded, I have to make all the calls and study throughout the week.”
“Run block is definitely my favorite. I like when you can tee off on some people, and pass blocking is fun too but for me, I’d rather run the ball all day.”
Zach Frazier talked about his teammates at West Virginia and what it was like getting to play at West Virginia.
“As far as the fans, it just means so much. I grew up in West Virginia. So, growing up as a fan first, you know how much WVU means to the people that live there. To be able to play for them, you see it in the stands, it’s a special feeling.”
During his time in the press conference, Frazier revealed that he has had formal meetings with the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears, as well as mentioning that he grew up a Miami Dolphins fan.
“I was a Dolphins fan,” Frazier said when asked if he was a Steelers fan growing up in Fairmont. “My dad’s from Florida, came to Fairmont State to play center there. He named me after Zach Thomas, linebacker there, so that’s why I’ve always wore 54.”
Zach Frazier was a four-time state champion in high school, and this was brought up in detail on the NFL Network’s broadcast of the Scouting Combine. The NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has noted this in his Top 50 prospects article.
Talking about some of his backstory, the people on NFL Network talked about how he lost only two wrestling matches in his high school career and how during his junior year, his slowest pin time was 51 seconds. Frazier wouldn’t become the only NFL center with a background in wrestling, as guys like the Chiefs’ Creed Humphrey and the Ravens’ Tyler Linderbaum have backgrounds in it as well.
Zach Frazier has a profile page on the NFL Network’s site where you can view his measurements and analysis. West Virginia is now having their Pro Day as a part of the first conference-wide Pro Day the Big 12 is hosting at the end of this month in Frisco, Texas, where guys like Frazier amongst others hope to showcase their skills.
