Live Results Thread: Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships Day 4 Final Rounds

The Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships are coming to a close at the Aquatics Center at Mylan Park, as just two days remain.

Texas has capitalized on its talent thus far, holding all but two of the tournament’s 23 event titles. The Longhorns lost their first events of the week on Thursday, with BYU junior Jordan Tiffany winning the men’s 100-yard butterfly and WVU’s Danny Berlitz taking the men’s 400 IM title.

The Mountaineers have three individual finalists on Friday. Senior Justin Heimes led with the top placement of the day as the fourth place finisher in the men’s 100-yard backstroke. Heimes finished the race in 47.03 seconds, exactly half of a second faster than his prelim time and just short of a personal best.

Sophomore Mia Cheatwood posted the fourth best prelim time in the women’s 100 breaststroke and came just short of her 1:00.46 prelim time in finals, finishing fifth in 1:00.6. Rounding the Mountaineer swimmers in finals was senior Joe Schaefer, who placed sixth in the 100 breastroke.

In the consolation finals of the women’s 200 butterfly, WVU senior Lilly Culp won the heat and recorded a time better than several finalists.

West Virginia’s men’s team and women’s team placed third and fifth respectively in the 200 freestyle relay.

In the diving well, senior Sara Haggerty competed as WVU’s sole finalist in women’s platform diving. Haggerty placed eighth with a score of 247.4 points.
