Big 12 Women’s Basketball Weekly Recap — February 23

The regular season of college women’s basketball is nearly complete, and the Big 12 has been one of the best conferences in women’s college basketball.

In the latest AP Poll, the Big 12 has five teams represented in it: Texas at fifth, Kansas State at 10th, West Virginia at 22nd, Oklahoma at 23rd, and Baylor at 24th.

As of games through Feb. 22, 12 out of the 14 teams are sitting at .500 or better. Cincinnati and UCF are the only two teams that do not currently have a winning record.

Let’s take a look at each Big 12 team and how they fared in games over the last week. This list is sorted alphabetically.

No. 24 Baylor (20-6, 9-6 Big 12)

Sunday, Baylor won a home game against Texas Tech 61-32. Baylor never trailed in this one as they set a new season best for points allowed.

Wednesday, Baylor won a home game against Kansas 69-61. Baylor only trailed in the first quarter as they took care of business from there.

Up next for Baylor is a top-25 showdown on the road against No. 22 West Virginia Saturday. After that is a road game against Cincinnati on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

BYU (15-13, 5-10 Big 12)

Last Saturday, BYU lost a home game against Kansas 70-62. The game was tightly contested throughout until Kansas created some separation in the fourth.

Wednesday, BYU lost a home game against TCU 68-58. BYU only led in the first half as TCU took over in the second half.

Up next for BYU is a road game against Iowa State on Saturday. After that is a home game against Houston on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Cincinnati (12-14, 4-11 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Cincinnati lost a home game against TCU 79-72. Cincinnati only led in the first quarter as TCU took care of business on the road.

This past Tuesday, Cincinnati lost a home game against No. 23 Oklahoma 95-87. Cincinnati never led in this one as Oklahoma won in a shootout.

Up next for Cincinnati is a road game against Texas Tech on Saturday. After that is a home game against Baylor on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Houston (13-13, 4-11 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Houston won a road game against Oklahoma State 65-57. Oklahoma State led for much of the first half and then Houston took over in the second half.

Wednesday, Houston lost a home game against Iowa State 76-64. Houston only led in the first quarter as Iowa State ran away with it from there.

Up next for Houston is a road game against TCU Saturday. After that is a road game against BYU on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Iowa State (15-10, 9-6 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Iowa State lost a road game against No. 5 Texas 81-60. Iowa State only led in the first half as Texas ran away with it in the second half.

Wednesday, Iowa State won a road game against Houston 76-64. Iowa State only trailed in the first quarter as they ran away with it from there.

Up next for Iowa State is a home game against BYU on Saturday. After that is a road game against Kansas State on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Kansas (15-11, 8-7 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Kansas won a road game against BYU 70-62. The game was tightly contested throughout until Kansas created some separation in the fourth.

Wednesday, Kansas lost a road game against No. 24 Baylor 69-61. Kansas only led in the first quarter as Baylor took care of business from there.

Up next for Kansas is a Sunflower Showdown at home against No. 10 Kansas State on Sunday, Feb. 25. After that is a road game against UCF on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

No. 10 Kansas State (23-4, 12-3 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Kansas State won a home game against UCF 60-58. Kansas State led by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter before holding off a UCF rally for the win.

Wednesday, Kansas State won a to- 25 showdown at home against No. 22 West Virginia 83-64 in overtime. The game was tightly contested throughout until Kansas State pulled away in overtime.

Up next for Kansas State is a Sunflower Showdown on the road against Kansas on Sunday, Feb. 25. After that is a home game against Iowa State on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

No. 23 Oklahoma (19-7, 13-2 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Oklahoma lost a top 25 showdown on the road against No. 24 West Virginia 70-66. The game was tightly contested throughout, and West Virginia managed to squeak it out at the end.

Tuesday, Oklahoma won a road game against Cincinnati 95-87. Oklahoma never trailed in this one as they won in a shootout.

Up next for Oklahoma is a Bedlam Series at home against Oklahoma State on Saturday. After that is a home game against Texas on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Oklahoma State (13-13, 6-9 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Oklahoma State lost a home game against Houston 65-57. Oklahoma State led for much of the first half and then Houston took over in the second half.

Wednesday, Oklahoma State won a home game against UCF 67-54. The game was tightly contested in the first quarter then Oklahoma State took over after that.

Up next for Oklahoma State is a Bedlam Series on the road against No. 23 Oklahoma on Saturday.

After that is a home game against West Virginia on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

TCU (17-9, 4-11 Big 12)

Last Saturday, TCU won a road game against Cincinnati 79-72. TCU only trailed in the first quarter as they took care of business on the road.

Wednesday, TCU won a road game against BYU 68-58. TCU only trailed in the first half as they took over in the second half.

Up next for TCU is a home game against Houston on Saturday. After that is a home game against Texas Tech on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

No. 5 Texas (25-3, 12-3)

Last Saturday, Texas won a home game against Iowa State 81-60. Texas only trailed in the first half as they ran away with it in the second half.

Wednesday, Texas won a home game against Texas Tech 77-72. The game was tightly contested throughout, and Texas managed to come out on top.

Up next for Texas is a road game against UCF on Saturday. After that is a road game against Oklahoma on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Texas Tech (16-12, 5-10 Big 12)

Sunday, Texas Tech lost a road game against No. 21 Baylor 61-32. Texas Tech never led in this one as Baylor set a new season best for points allowed.

Wednesday, Texas Tech lost a road game against No. 5 Texas 77-72. The game was tightly contested throughout, and Texas managed to come out on top.

Up next for Texas Tech is a home game against Cincinnati on Saturday. After that is a road game against TCU on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

UCF (12-13, 3-12 Big 12)

Last Saturday, UCF lost a road game against No. 7 Kansas State 60-58. UCF trailed by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter before a rally was held off by Kansas State for the win.

Wednesday, UCF lost a road game against Oklahoma State 67-54. The game was tightly contested in the first quarter then Oklahoma State took over after that.

Up next for UCF is a home game against No. 5 Texas on Saturday. After that is a home game against Kansas on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

No. 22 West Virginia (22-4, 11-4 Big 12)

Last Saturday, West Virginia won a top-25 showdown at home against No. 23 Oklahoma 70-66. The game was tightly contested throughout, and West Virginia managed to squeak it out at the end.

Wednesday, West Virginia lost a top-25 showdown on the road against No. 10 Kansas State 73-64 in overtime. The game was tightly contested throughout until Kansas State pulled away in overtime.

Up next for West Virginia is another top-25 showdown, this time at home against No. 24 Baylor on Saturday. After that is a road game against Oklahoma State on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
