Big 12 Basketball Weekly Recap — February 22

We are almost to the end of February and the Big 12 continues to make its case as the best conference in college basketball.

In the latest AP Poll, the Big 12 has six teams represented in it: Houston at second, Iowa State at sixth, Kansas at ninth, Baylor at 11th, Texas Tech at 23rd and BYU at 25th. The Big 12 also has TCU receiving votes.

As of games through Feb. 21, 8 out of the 14 teams have eight or fewer losses with every team having played at least 25 games. Oklahoma State and West Virginia are the only teams in the conference that do not currently have a winning record.

Let’s take a look at each Big 12 team and how they fared in games over the last week. This list is sorted alphabetically.

No. 11 Baylor (19-7, 8-5 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Baylor won a road game against West Virginia 94-81. Baylor only trailed early in the first half as they took care of business on the road.

Tuesday, Baylor lost a top-25 showdown on the road against No. 25 BYU 78-71. Baylor led in the first half and one time in the second half, but BYU used their 3-point prowess to pull away in the second half.

Up next for Baylor is a top-15 showdown at home against No. 2 Houston on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a road game against TCU on Monday, Feb. 26.

No. 25 BYU (19-7, 7-6 Big 12)

Last Saturday, BYU lost a road game against Oklahoma State 93-83. BYU never led in this one as Oklahoma State took care of business on their home court.

Tuesday, BYU won a top-25 showdown at home against No. 11 Baylor 78-71. BYU trailed in the first half and one time in the second half, but they used their 3-point prowess to pull away in the second half.

Up next for BYU is a road game against Kansas State on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a road game against Kansas on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Cincinnati (16-10, 5-8 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Cincinnati won a road game against UCF 76-74. Cincinnati led by as many as 12 points in the second half before holding off a UCF rally for the win.

Wednesday, Cincinnati lost a home game against Oklahoma State 80-76. The game was tightly contested throughout and Oklahoma State managed to squeak it out at the end.

Up next for Cincinnati is a road game against TCU on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a road game against Houston on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

No. 2 Houston (23-3, 10-3 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Houston won a home game against Texas 82-61. Houston never trailed in this one as they cruised to an easy victory.

Monday, Houston won a top-10 showdown at home against No. 6 Iowa State 73-65. Houston never trailed in this one but Iowa State kept pace throughout.

Up next for Houston is a top 15 showdown on the road against No. 11 Baylor on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a home game against Cincinnati on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

No. 6 Iowa State (20-6, 9-4 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Iowa State won a home game against Texas Tech 82-74. Iowa State only trailed to start out the game as they took care of business on their home court.

Monday, Iowa State lost a to- 10 showdown on the road against No. 2 Houston 73-65. Iowa State never led in this one but kept pace throughout.

Up next for Iowa State is a home game against West Virginia on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a home game against Oklahoma on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

No. 9 Kansas (20-6, 8-5 Big 12)

Saturday, Kansas won a top-25 showdown on the road against No. 25 Oklahoma 67-57. Kansas trailed for much of the game until they took over in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Kansas was off during the weekdays this week and up next is a home game against Texas on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a home game against BYU on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Kansas State (15-11, 5-8 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Kansas State lost a home game against TCU 75-72. The game was a back-and-forth affair that saw TCU hit a game-winning 3-point shot with one second left.

Monday, Kansas State lost a road game against Texas 62-56. Kansas State never led in this one but kept pace throughout.

Up next for Kansas State is a home game against No. 25 BYU on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a home game against West Virginia on Monday, Feb. 26.

Oklahoma (18-8, 5-7 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Oklahoma lost a top 25 showdown at home against No. 6 Kansas 67-57. Oklahoma led for much of the game until Kansas took over in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Oklahoma was off during the weekdays this week and up next is a Bedlam Series on the road against Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a road game against Iowa State on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Oklahoma State (12-14, 4-9 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Oklahoma State won a home game against No. 19 BYU 93-83. Oklahoma State never trailed in this one as they took care of business on their home court.

Wednesday, Oklahoma State won a road game against Cincinnati 80-76. The game was tightly contested throughout and Oklahoma State managed to squeak it out at the end.

Up next for Oklahoma State is a Bedlam Series at home against Oklahoma on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a home game against UCF on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

TCU (18-8, 7-6 Big 12)

Last Saturday, TCU won a road game against Kansas State 75-72. The game was a back-and-forth affair that saw TCU hit a game-winning 3-point shot with one second left.

This past Tuesday, TCU lost a road game against No. 23 Texas Tech 82-81. The game was tightly contested throughout and TCU led by as many as 10 with 6:28 to go in the game before Texas Tech rallied to squeak it out at the end.

Up next for TCU is a home game against Cincinnati on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a home game against Baylor on Monday, Feb. 26.

Texas (17-9, 6-7 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Texas lost a road game against No. 3 Houston 82-61. Texas never led in this one as Houston cruised to an easy victory.

This past Monday, Texas won a home game against Kansas State 62-56. Texas never trailed in this one, but Kansas State kept pace throughout.

Up next for Texas is a road game against No. 9 Kansas on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a road game against Texas Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

No. 23 Texas Tech (19-7, 8-5 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Texas Tech lost a road game against No. 10 Iowa State 82-74. Texas Tech only led to start out the game as Iowa State took care of business on their home court.

This past Tuesday, Texas Tech won a home game against TCU 82-81. The game was tightly contested throughout and Texas Tech trailed by as many as 10 with 6:28 to go in the game before they rallied to squeak it out at the end.

UCF (13-12, 4-9 Big 12)

Last Saturday, UCF lost a home game against Cincinnati 76-74. UCF trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half before a rally was held off by Cincinnati for the win.

Tuesday, UCF lost a road game against West Virginia 77-67. UCF never led in this one as West Virginia took care of business on their home court.

Up next for UCF is a home game against No. 23 Texas Tech on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a road game against Oklahoma State on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

West Virginia (9-17, 4-9 Big 12)

Last Saturday, West Virginia lost a home game against No. 12 Baylor 94-81. West Virginia only led early in the first half as Baylor took care of business on the road.

Tuesday, West Virginia won a home game against UCF 77-67. West Virginia never trailed in this one as they took care of business on their home court.

Up next for West Virginia is a road game against No. 6 Iowa State on Saturday, Feb. 24. After that is a road game against Kansas State on Monday, Feb. 26.
