College baseball is now underway, and the Big 12 teams played some games this past weekend.
In the latest D1 Baseball Top 25 Rankings, the Big 12 has four teams represented in it: TCU at fifth, Texas at 16th, Texas Tech at 19th, and Kansas State at 24th.
As of games through Feb. 19, every Big 12 team has played at least one game. West Virginia has played the most games so far with four.
Let’s take a look at each Big 12 team and how they fared in games during the opening weekend of college baseball. This list is sorted alphabetically.
Baylor (0-3)
Baylor opened the season at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown this past weekend. They lost all three games there, falling to Nebraska 4-1, Oregon 7-4, and to No. 5 Tennessee 11-5. Over that three-game stretch, Baylor gave up a combined 28 hits.
Up next for Baylor is their home opener this evening against Lamar. After that is a three-game series at home this weekend against No. 23 Indiana.
BYU (1-2)
BYU opened the season at the MLB Desert Invitational this past weekend. They beat USC 8-1, then lost to Ohio State 7-2 and to Grand Canyon 6-2. BYU had 12 hits in the win over USC but a combined 11 in the two losses.
Up next for BYU is a single road game against California tomorrow. After that is a three-game road series against UC Davis Thursday through Saturday.
Cincinnati (0-2)
Cincinnati opened the season at Jacksonville, losing a double header on Friday 8-6 and 11-3. Cincinnati held leads in both games but could not hold on to them. They were also slated to have a game against Jacksonville on Sunday that was ultimately canceled from inclement weather.
Up next for Cincinnati is their home opener against Northern Kentucky later today. After that is the Coastal Carolina Tournament this weekend starting with a game against Ball State on Friday.
Houston (3-0)
Houston opened the season with a three-game series at home against Binghamton this past weekend. They swept the series, winning 8-4, 8-2, and 7-0. Houston struck out at least 11 Binghamton batters in every game.
Up next for Houston is a single game at home against Prairie View A&M later today. After that is a three-game series this weekend at home against St. Johns.
Kansas (1-2)
Kansas opened the season with a three-game series in a neutral site against Illinois-Chicago this past weekend. They lost the first two games 11-9 and 13-6, then won the third 8-2. Kansas gave up a combined 24 hits in the two losses while only allowing two in the one win.
Up next for Kansas is another neutral site game against Texas A&M Corpus Christi in a single header later today. After that is the Karbach Round Rock Classic this weekend starting on Friday against Texas State.
No. 24 Kansas State (2-1)
Kansas State opened the season at the MLB Desert Invitational this past weekend. They lost to California 6-3, then won against Boston College 6-4 and against Georgetown 7-6. They allowed 11 hits in their loss and 11 combined in their two wins.
Up next for Kansas State is a single road game against Arizona State later today. After that is their opener in a three-game series against Holy Cross starting on Friday.
Oklahoma (2-1)
Oklahoma opened the season at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown this past weekend. They lost to Oregon 4-2, then won against No. 9 Tennessee 5-1 and Nebraska 7-6. Oklahoma had just six hits in their loss while having a combined 21 in their two wins.
Up next for Oklahoma is a single road game against Dallas Baptist later today. After that is their home opener in a three-game series against Wright State starting on Friday.
Oklahoma State (1-2)
Oklahoma State opened the season with a road series against Sam Houston this past weekend. They lost the first two games 7-2 and 2-1 before winning the third game 17-2. After having just a combined 11 hits in the two losses, they exploded for 23 in the win, which included three two-run homers.
Up next for Oklahoma State is a single neutral site game against Abilene Christian tomorrow. After that is the Kubota College Baseball Series in Arlington, TX starting with Michigan on Friday.
No. 5 TCU (3-0)
TCU opened the season with a three-game home series against Florida Gulf Coast this past weekend. They won all three games 10-9, 13-10, and 11-6, with them having 13 hits in every game.
Up next for TCU is a single home game against Texas State later today. After that is a three-game home series against No. 20 UCLA starting on Friday.
No. 16 Texas (2-1)
Texas opened the season with a three-game home series against San Diego this past weekend. They won the first game 7-3, lost the second one 6-5 in 11 innings, and won the third one 9-4. They allowed 12 hits in each of the first two games then allowed just six in the third game.
Up next for Texas is single home game against Houston Christian later today. After that is a three-game home series against Cal Poly starting on Friday.
No. 19 Texas Tech (2-1)
Texas Tech opened the season at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown this past weekend. They lost to No. 9 Tennessee 6-2, won against Nebraska 6-3 and Oregon 11-7. They gave up at least eight hits in every game but went 2-1 in such games.
Up next for Texas Tech is a pair of neutral site games in Arlington, Texas against UTA later today and then No. 7 Oregon State tomorrow. After that is their home opener in a three-game series against Texas Southern starting on Friday.
UCF (1-0)
UCF opened the season with a three-game home series against Bryant this past weekend. The won the first game 12-11, then had the second game suspended and the third canceled from inclement weather. The lone game was a high scoring affair, with each team having at 15 hits.
Up next for UCF is a single road game against Miami tomorrow. After that is a three-game home series against Samford starting on Friday.
West Virginia (2-2)
West Virginia opened the season with a four-game road series against Stetson this past weekend. They won the first game 6-4, lost the next two 7-5 and 5-4, then won the fourth one 7-5. West Virginia had at least seven hits in every game played.
Up next for West Virginia is a three-game road series against Charlotte starting on Friday. After that is their home opener against Canisius on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
