West Virginia shortstop JJ Wetherholt left the second game of WVU’s Monday doubleheader with an injury and he was being evaluated, West Virginia announced.
Now, it appears as though Wetherholt is dealing with a hamstring injury and that he is considered to be day-to-day. Kiley McDaniel of ESPN reported the status of Wetherholt.
A hamstring injury is nothing new to Wetherholt, who dealt with the same injury this summer. It is unclear if it is the same leg that Wetherholt previously injured this summer.
Wetherholt started all four games of WVU’s opening series against Stetson this weekend. He went 4-for-13 (.308) with three walks, five runs scored, and three stolen bases. WVU split the series with Stetson, as well as split the doubleheader on Monday.
The Mountaineers return to the diamond on Friday night against Charlotte to begin a three-game series.
