Jeremiah Bembry seeking medical redshirt for 2023-2024 season

On Friday West Virginia men’s basketball interim head coach Josh Eilert was asked why redshirt freshman Jeremiah Bembry hadn’t been coming off the bench in the slightest, asking if he was injured to which Eilert said Bembry was seeking a medical redshirt.

“No, he isn’t hurt, well he had that nagging shoulder injury, that carried over from the Florida trip. But, he’s looking at trying to get a medical redshirt,” Eilert said.

This season, Bembry has played 13 minutes for the Mountaineers across eight games after having transferred from Florida State. He has three rebounds and one assist this season.

“He asked me that he’d be pursuing that and if it came down to it, we could certainly try to force the issue with putting him in, but in order for him to be eligible, he couldn’t play in a certain amount of games,” Eilert said. “So I respected his wishes and we haven’t thrown him in, in a situation like that”
