Former Mountaineer Colton McKivitz makes Super Bowl debut, but 49ers come up short

After being a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, former West Virginia offensive lineman Colton McKivitz made his first Super Bowl appearance in his fourth season, which he started in.

McKivitz was just the 11th Mountaineer to start in a Super Bowl.

In the Super Bowl, the 49ers offensive line helped produce 110 rushing yards on 31 attempts (3.5 ypa) and allowed just one sack for four yards.

The 49ers would lose in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs 25-22 but have opened up as favorites to win Super Bowl LIX next year, currently at +550 according to odds by DraftKings Sportsbook.

McKivitz didn’t commit a single penalty or allow a sack in the postseason.

With Mike McGlinchey leaving in free agency, McKivitz started at right tackle for the 49ers this season, playing in nearly all their offensive snaps and on some special team plays, ranking him in the top 10 in snaps played amongst all tackles in the regular season. He committed just two penalties all year.

McKivitz will be serving the last year of a two-year contract extension he signed with San Francisco on March 9, 2023, in the 2024-2025 season. He is set to make a base salary of $2.04 million.
