With only two point guards available for the New York Knicks on Thursday, former West Virginia and current Knicks guard Miles ‘Deuce’ McBride set a career-high 45 minutes played and dropped a career-high 21 points in a 122-108 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
McBride started in place of Knicks’ All-Star Jalen Brunson, who rolled his ankle in a win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday.
On top of that, the Knicks were running low on guards after making a trade with the Pistons Thursday, ahead of the NBA trade deadline, in a package that included sending away guards Malachi Flynn, Quentin Grimes and Ryan Arcidiacono.
McBride’s previous career-high in points came against the Grizzlies on Jan. 15, when he was also starting for Brunson, with 20.
Deuce’s 21 points Thursday, came on nine of 22 shooting, which included a highlight-worthy dunk over 6-foot-10 Dallas’ Maxi Kleber, two of 10 from three and one for one from the free-throw line. He also had six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
