Four WVU Golfers Wrap Up Weekend in Georgia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 4, 2024) – Four West Virginia University golfers wrapped up play this weekend at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate in Statesboro, Georgia.

Fifth-year senior Trent Tipton finished in 14th place with rounds of 75-68-75=218 (+2). Freshman Harrison Thompson tied for 27th place with rounds of 75-74-74=223 (+7), while senior Will Stakel tied for 29thplace with rounds of 74-75-75=224 (+8). Junior Pierce Grieve shot 81-74-72=227 (+11).

“I’m happy for Trent,” coach Sean Covich said. “He played some really sold golf. A second round 68 was impressive. Getting the other guys tournament reps is very important, especially for true freshman Harrison Thompson. Will Stakel and Pierce Grieve will get another opportunity soon. I’m excited to see how they will contribute to this team as the season rolls on.”

The Mountaineers will resume team competition on Feb. 17-18 at the Gators Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
