The Big 12 women’s basketball standings are starting to take shape and there is a clear picture forming at the top of the standings.
With four weeks left of Big 12 play, and as the month of February has started, the top teams in the league are starting to cement themselves as contenders, though there is still a path for the teams right behind them.
1-2 Conference Losses
There are three teams in the Big 12 who have either one or two losses in Big 12 play. Those schools are Oklahoma, Kansas State, and West Virginia. Oklahoma is 9-1 in conference play, with their only loss being to Kansas State. They avenged that loss this past week though, beating K-State. K-State picked up both their conference losses this past week, falling to Oklahoma and Texas, both on the road.
Second Wave of Contenders
The tier right below these three teams has a trio of teams who are all capable of reaching the top of the Big 12 standings. Texas is 8-3, Iowa State is 7-4, and Baylor is 6-4. Baylor has three games left against teams who are higher than them in the standings. Iowa State has four such games, while Texas has just one.
Middle of the Pack
There are three teams in the middle of the standings, as Texas Tech is 5-5, Kansas is 5-6, and Oklahoma State is 4-7. Kansas has won two straight, while Oklahoma State has lost five straight.
Bottom of the League
Out of the bottom five teams, four are newcomers, and the other (TCU) has had numerous injuries up and down their roster. Cincinnati is 3-7, Houston is 3-8, while TCU, UCF, and BYU, are all 2-8 in league play.
