Big 12 Women’s Basketball Weekly Recap — February 2

The month of January has passed by and the Big 12 has been one of the best conferences in women’s college basketball.

In the latest AP Poll, the Big 12 has four teams represented in it: Kansas State at second, Texas at 12th, Baylor at 13th and West Virginia at 23rd. Oklahoma has also received votes.

As of games through Feb. 1, 13 out of the 14 Big 12 teams have a winning record.

Let’s take a look at each Big 12 team and how they fared in games over the last week. This list is sorted alphabetically.

No. 13 Baylor (16-4, 5-4 Big 12)

This past Sunday, Baylor won a road game against Oklahoma State 72-60. The game was all Oklahoma State in the first half, then all Baylor in the second half.

Thursday, Baylor lost a Top 15 showdown at home against No. 12 Texas 67-55. Baylor had a lead midway through the third quarter before Texas ran away with it from there.

Up next for Baylor is a road game against Houston on Saturday. After that is a road game against BYU on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

BYU (12-10, 2-7 Big 12)

Last Saturday, BYU lost a road game against No. 4 Kansas State 67-65. The game was tightly contested throughout and Kansas State managed to squeak out the win.

This past Wednesday, BYU lost a road game against Kansas 67-53. BYU never led in this one as Kansas took care of business on their home court.

Up next for BYU is a home game against No. 23 West Virginia on Saturday. After that is a home game against Baylor on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Cincinnati (10-10, 2-7 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Cincinnati lost a road game against No. 10 Texas 67-50. Cincinnati never led in this one as Texas took care of business on their home court.

This past Tuesday, Cincinnati lost a road game against Houston 54-46. Cincinnati only led in the first quarter as Houston took care of business on their home court.

Up next for Cincinnati is a home game against Texas Tech on Saturday. After that is a road game against UCF on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Houston (12-9, 3-7 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Houston lost a road game against UCF 92-87 in overtime. This was the second time this season that Houston has allowed at least 90 points in a game this season.

This past Tuesday, Houston won a home game against Cincinnati 54-46. Cincinnati only led in the first quarter as Houston took care of business on their home court.

Up next for Houston is a home game against No. 13 Baylor on Sunday, Feb. 4. After that is a road game against Kansas on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Iowa State (13-7, 7-3 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Iowa State lost a road game against No. 24 West Virginia 84-78. The game was tightly contested throughout and Iowa State shot better than West Virginia but West Virginia managed to squeak out the win.

This past Wednesday, Iowa State won a home game against Oklahoma State 78-67. Oklahoma State did lead late in the third quarter, but Iowa State pulled away from there for the win.

Up next for Iowa State is a road game against UCF on Saturday. After that is a home game against Oklahoma on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Kansas (11-10, 4-6 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Kansas lost a road game against Oklahoma 60-55. The game was tightly contested throughout and Oklahoma managed to squeak out the win.

This past Wednesday, Kansas won a home game against BYU 67-53. BYU never led in this one as Kansas took care of business on their home court.

Up next for Kansas is a road game against TCU on Saturday. After that is a home game against Houston on Thursday, Feb. 8.

No. 2 Kansas State (20-2, 9-1 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Kansas State won a home game against BYU 67-65. The game was tightly contested throughout and Kansas State managed to squeak out the win.

This past Wednesday, Kansas State lost a road game against Oklahoma 66-63. The loss was Kansas State’s first since a late-November loss to a Caitlin Clark-led Iowa team as well as their first conference loss of the season.

Up next for Kansas State is a Top 15 showdown on the road against No. 12 Texas on Sunday, Feb. 4. After that is a home game against Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Oklahoma (14-6, 8-1 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Oklahoma won a home game against Kansas 60-55. The game was tightly contested throughout and Oklahoma managed to squeak out the win.

This past Wednesday, Oklahoma won a home game against No. 2 Kansas State 66-63. The game was tightly contested throughout and Oklahoma managed to hand Kansas State their first conference loss of the season.

Up next for Oklahoma is the Bedlam Series on the road against Oklahoma State on Saturday. After that is a home game against TCU on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Oklahoma State (11-10, 4-6 Big 12)

This past Sunday, Oklahoma State lost a home game against No. 13 Baylor 72-60. The game was all Oklahoma State in the first half, then all Baylor in the second half.

This past Wednesday, Oklahoma State lost a road game against Iowa State 78-67. Oklahoma State did lead late in the third quarter, but Iowa State pulled away from there for the win.

Up next for Oklahoma State is the Bedlam Series at home against Oklahoma on Saturday. After that is a road game against Kansas State on Saturday, Feb. 10.

TCU (15-5, 2-7 Big 12)

Last Saturday, TCU lost a road game against Texas Tech 71-65. TCU dominated the first quarter, then it was all Texas Tech until TCU made a fourth-quarter comeback for the win.

TCU was off during the weekdays this week and up next is a home game against Kansas on Saturday. After that is a road game against Oklahoma on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

No. 12 Texas (20-3, 7-3 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Texas won a home game against Cincinnati 67-50. Cincinnati never led in this one as Texas took care of business on their home court.

Thursday, Texas won a Top 15 showdown on the road against No. 13 Baylor 67-55. Baylor had a lead midway through the third quarter before Texas ran away with it from there.

Up next for Texas is another Top 15 showdown at home against No. 2 Kansas State on Saturday. After that is a road game against TCU on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Texas Tech (16-6, 5-4 Big 12)

Last Saturday, Texas Tech won a home game against TCU 71-65. TCU dominated the first quarter, then it was all Texas Tech until TCU made a fourth-quarter comeback for the win.

Texas Tech was off during the weekdays this week and up next is a road game against Cincinnati on Saturday. After that is a road game against West Virginia on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

UCF (10-9, 1-8 Big 12)

Last Saturday, UCF won a home game against Houston 92-87 in overtime. The 92 points scored were their most since early in the season and they also picked up their first conference win in the process.

This past Tuesday, UCF lost a road game against No. 23 West Virginia 84-43. UCF never led in this one as West Virginia made easy work of them.

Up next for UCF is a home game against Iowa State on Saturday. After that is a home game against Cincinnati on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

No. 23 West Virginia (18-2, 7-2 Big 12)

Last Saturday, West Virginia won a home game against Iowa State 84-78. The game was tightly contested throughout and Iowa State outshot West Virginia but West Virginia managed to squeak out the win.

This past Tuesday, West Virginia won a home game against UCF 84-43. UCF never led in this one as West Virginia made easy work of them.

Up next for West Virginia is a road game against BYU on Saturday. After that is a home game against Texas Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
