Eilert talks about Jesse Edwards’ return

West Virginia center Jesse Edwards made his first return to game action against Oklahoma State after suffering a fractured wrist against UMass on Dec. 16, 2023, WVU interim head coach Josh Eilert spoke of what he saw from Edwards in his return.

“Jesse’s going to get you the rebounds and give you some hard rebounds down there. But you got to understand the risk is a situation with him at the foul line. And so if they sniff that out and they start hacking him just to sit on the line does nobody no good. He has a hard time getting that thing (the ball) up there,” Eilert said.

Edwards had four points and four rebounds in the loss, shooting two-of-five from the free-throw line in 16 minutes.

“Hopefully just each and every day he gets more comfortable and we ease him back into the equation and we still get that production from Pat (Suemnick),” Eilert said.

Suemnick had two points, shooting 1-2, with two rebounds, an assist and steal .

Although he’s back in the rotation, Eilert notes that he still wants to be cautious with his big-man.

He said: “I said easy guys (to his players), Jesse’s back, but don’t think Jesse’s 100% and we can just throw that (the ball) up there like we used to.”
