Eight Mountaineers listed in first coaches rankings for 2024 Wrestling Championships

The NCAA released its first coaches’ rankings for the 2024 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, to which the No. 21 West Virginia wrestling team was well represented, including four wrestlers ranked in the top 25 in their respective weight classes.

WVU is currently 8-2 overall as a team, 2-2 in the Big 12 and has had wrestlers see individual success which could lead into the postseason.

This list will be ordered by weight class.

125— No. 31 Jett Strickenberger

In his first season at West Virginia after winning a JUCO national championship at Northwest Kansas Technical College, Strickenberger is 9-3, 2-1 against Big 12 opponents and an impressive 3-0 against ranked opponents.

Strickenberger has been named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week twice this season, becoming the fourth Mountaineer wrestler to do so in the same season and the first ever at 125.

141— No. 10 Jordan Titus

After qualifying for the tournament last season, Titus has shown great improvement this season.

West Virginia’s 141-pounder is 17-1 this season, 59-22 in his career and 9-0 in tournaments as he was a Midlands champion.

Titus’ only loss this season came against No. 6 Tagen Jamison in WVU’s loss to Oklahoma State.

149— No. 7 Ty Watters

Watters, the highest-ranked individual Mountaineer is top-five in NCAA wrestling in wins via pin this season with 10.

The true freshman is 17-3 this season, 9-1 in dual matches.

157— No. 31 Caleb Dowling

Dowling, the senior from Port Royal, Pennsylvania is 14-4 this season and 52-15 in his career.

Dowling has a team-leading seven major decisions, he is 9-1 in tournaments.

165— No. 9 Peyton Hall

Hall, the reigning All-American and NCAA qualifier last year, has already picked up 20 bonus point wins this season, headlined by eight technical falls.

He is 21-3 this season, 5-0 against Big 12 opponents and 4-1 vs ranked opponents.

174— No. 15 Brody Conley

Conley, a redshirt freshman, is the last of the four West Virginia wrestlers ranked in the top 25 in their respective weight classes.

He is 34-7 in his career, 19-3 this season, including being undefeated in both dual (8-0) and Big 12 matches (4-0).

Conley has pinned his opponents eight times this season so far.

184— No. 29 Dennis Robin

Just outside the top 25 for his weight class, Robin is 17-7 this season and 54-33 in his career.

The redshirt junior from Arlington, New York has picked up three technical falls this season, tied for third on the team amongst starters.

285— No. 31 Michael Wolfgram

West Virginia’s heavyweight, Wolfgram was another NCAA qualifier for WVU in the 2022-2023 season.

He is 16-7 this season, going 10-3 in tournaments.

Wolfgram has posted a career record of 67-38.

West Virginia will host No. 2 Missouri in a Big 12 matchup on Friday at 7 p.m. EST inside the WVU Coliseum.
