West Virginia fell to No. 15 ranked Oklahoma 77-63 in Norman on Wednesday night.
The Mountaineers started the game off well, jumping out to an 18-12 lead, but this would be the largest lead the Mountaineers held for the remainder of the game.
A quick 8-0 run from the Sooners put Oklahoma up 20-18 and West Virginia would never have the lead again.
Heading into halftime, Oklahoma held a 29-25 lead behind a 37% shooting performance compared to West Virginia’s 39% shooting.
In the second half, everything began to click for Oklahoma who shot 64% from the field while West Virginia shot 52%.
Just five minutes into the second half Oklahoma found themselves up 10 and never looked back.
The story for the Mountaineers was the shooting struggles of RaeQuan Battle who was 2-5 in the second half after a 2-8 performance in the first half, finishing with 12 points.
By the under-12 timeout, the Sooners held a 12-point lead, having outscored West Virginia 20-12 so far in the second half.
West Virginia struggled with rebounding in this game, getting out-rebounded 33-19 in this game, but the main struggles came with second-chance opportunities as Oklahoma’s Otega Oweh was able to rebound his own miss and score on back-to-back possessions.
Jalon Moore was the Sooners’ top scorer with 16 points, shooting 7-11 from the field, he also had five rebounds and a steal.
Oklahoma committed more turnovers than WVU (19-16), but the lack of Mountaineer height was the clear deciding factor in this one allowing the Sooners to score 11 second-chance points and 10 points off rebounds.
West Virginia has now dropped four straight road games as they have only won games at home this season, they will host No. 3 Kansas on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. EST looking to bounce back in any way that they can.
