Dravon Askew-Henry drafted by UFL’s Battlehawks

Former West Virginia DB Dravon Askew-Henry was drafted by the UFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks with their first pick in the 2024 UFL super dispersal draft yesterday.

Askew-Henry was previously with the New Jersey Generals of the USFL for two seasons from 2022-2023. The Generals did not make it to the 2024 merger between the USFL and the XFL and Askew-Henry was in need of a new team.

Dravon Askew-Henry will be getting to play for head coach Anthony Becht, who is also a former Mountaineer himself. The Battlehawks are coming off a 7-3 season in 2023 where they narrowly missed out on the XFL playoffs.

Askew-Henry was a standout at West Virginia, where he started a school-record 51 games. He finished his college career with 215 combined tackles, 10 pass breakups, and 6 interceptions.

After going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, Askew-Henry bounced around several NFL teams but never played a game for them. He played for the New York Guardians during the 2020 XFL season before league play was suspended mid-season from the COVID-19 pandemic, then went on to the USFL as aforementioned.

Dravon Askew-Henry is one of eight former Mountaineers currently on a UFL roster for the 2024 season, joining RB Leddie Brown and DL Will Clarke of the Arlington Renegades, WR Gary Jennings and S Kenny Robinson of the Birmingham Stallions, S Sean Mahone and WR Marcus Simms of the Michigan Panthers, and OL Michael Brown of the San Antonio Brahmas.

The 2024 UFL season is slated to begin on Saturday, March 30 when the reigning XFL champion Renegades take on the two-time reigning USFL champion Stallions.
