The Big 12 is through the first week of conference play, and there already has been plenty of madness in what is shaping up to be one of, if not, the best basketball conference in the country.
The computer models back that statement up, as the Big 12 has the highest average NET Ranking of any conference, at 48.50. The next closest is the Big Ten, with an average ranking of 64.14.
The NET features three Big 12 teams in the top ten, and six teams in the top 25.

KenPom also has many Big 12 teams near the top, with six teams ranking inside the top 20, and eight teams inside the top 30. In addition, only two schools (Oklahoma State and West Virginia) fall outside the top 100 of KenPom’s rankings of Big 12 teams.
Part of the reason for KenPom’s liking of the Big 12 is the league’s efforts on the defensive end. The Big 12 has 11 of their 14 teams ranked 51st or better in defensive efficiency metric by KenPom, which measures points allowed per 100 possessions.
