Josh Eilert lays out possible timeline for Jesse Edwards’ return on Thursday’s radio show

West Virginia interim head coach Josh Eilert gave an update on Jesse Edwards’ timeline to returning to the court on his radio show Thursday evening.

Edwards, who was diagnosed with a fractured wrist on Dec. 18, was set to miss four weeks upon the original diagnosis. Edwards would have surgery soon after that date, and the four-week timeline would put his return around Jan. 15. Four days away from the 15th, Eilert said it seems to be a little longer until Edwards will be ready to see game action.

Eilert on his radio show said it’s “unrealistic” for Edwards to see the court against Kansas next Saturday as Edwards will be in a brace for another week before he starts rehab.

“We’ve got to do right by Jesse. We don’t want to force the issue,” Eilert said.

Edwards missing the Kansas game does not to any favors to a depleted front court and a team who is in desperation mode. Kansas features Hunter Dicksinson as their five-man, who is second in the Big 12 in scoring and first in rebounding.

Prior to Kansas, WVU has to face Texas and Oklahoma, as the Mountaineers try to find wins against the Big 12’s top competition without Edwards.
