West Virginia hosts Kansas State on Tuesday night, with the Mountaineers hoping to get their first Big 12 win of the season. The Mountaineers and Wildcats split last year’s meetings.
Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. from the WVU Coliseum, and the game will be televised on ESPN+.
Our staff gives their prediction for the game.
Wesley Shoemaker: West Virginia was simply outclassed when they hit the road for their first Big 12 game against Houston on Saturday, and wins have escaped them many times. The Mountaineers will need some home cooking, and it starts with what they’re good at. Their guards have to be more consistent, and WVU is an offensive heavy team. RaeQuan Battle scored only four points, and Noah Farrakhan, who has been one of WVU’s best offensive threats, was held to to nine. Bold prediction here is both go for 20 points as the Mountaineers find a way to get it done on their home court.

Ryan Roddy: Coming off of an embarrassing loss to a defensive dominating Houston team I expect West Virginia to play with some fire against Kansas State. With Jesse Edwards still recovering from injury, Pat Suemick will continue to step up for the Mountaineers rotating with Akok Akok. Quinn Slazinksi has struggled as of late but could find some success against the Wildcats. All in all, I predict West Virginia to barely scrape by with a win, relieving a tiny bit of pressure, but being nowhere close to out of the storm just yet.

Patrick Reneau: After a blowout loss to Houston, West Virginia desperately needs a rebound win against Kansas State to try and get some sort of resume if they believe the tournament is still in play. Without Jesse Edwards, RaeQuan Battle began to be the elite scorer they needed but teams have figured this out and double teams we got so used to seeing on Jesse has now come to Battle. Someone in the form of Farrakhan, Kriisa, or Slazinski will need to step up in order to win this game.
