Mountaineers Hold Firm at No. 24 in AP Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Jan. 8, 2024)  – The West Virginia University women’s basketball team checked in at No. 24 for the second straight week in the Associated Press (AP) Poll, announced Monday.

The ranking is the third straight week WVU has appeared in the poll. The Mountaineers are 13-1 on the season and sit at 2-1 in Big 12 conference play. West Virginia enters this week as the No. 23 team in the NET rankings.

 
WVU received 70 points this week to rank 24th in the poll and is one of four Big 12 conference teams featured in the latest rankings.
 
Baylor (14-0) is No. 4 with 738 points while Texas (15-1) comes in at No. 10 with 589 points. Kansas State (15-1) is just behind at No. 12 with 513 points.
 
No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Iowa, No. 4 Baylor and No. 5 Colorado made up this week’s top five.
 
West Virginia hits the road for two straight contests this week. The Mountaineers open the trip in Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET. West Virginia closes out the road stint in Orlando, Florida with a matchup against UCF on Saturday at Noon. Both games will be broadcast on Big12Now on ESPN+ and the Mountaineer Sports Network, including 100.9 WZST-FM.
