Josh Eilert discusses technical foul, end of regulation timing following loss to Ohio State

West Virginia lost to Ohio State in overtime on Saturday, falling 78-75 to the Buckeyes in Cleveland.

The Mountaineers were able to force over time as they bottled up Roddy Gayle. The buzzer sounded, but it appeared there should have been at least one second put back on the clock due to the shot clock expiring prior to the game clock expiring.

West Virginia interim head coach Josh Eilert said he saw the replay and talked to the officials during the game.

“Go back and reviewing film and it’s pretty evident that the end of regulation they didn’t get it off. There should’ve been time on the clock. For whatever reason they refused to take a look at that,” Eilert said, before saying he was unsuccessful when he brought it up with the referees.

Eilert would receive the first technical foul as a head coach in the overtime period. RaeQuan Battle attempted a three-pointer, and came up well short.

Battle attempted the shot right in front of where Eilert was positioned on the West Virginia bench, and he said Battle seemed to have gotten hit on the arm during his shot attempt. Eilert was whistled for a technical foul when he argued the call.

I’m three feet away from it. I’m a pretty levelheaded guy. I had a clear look at the call. Should’ve been made.”
